Matt's Family Favorite Mac & Crunch
Crumbled Cheese Crackers take this mac to a new level.
Ingredients
- 2 cups elbow macaroni
- 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 1 cup Velveeta cheese, cubed
- 2 cups milk
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup crumbled cheese crackers
Instructions
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the elbow macaroni according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Once melted, whisk in the flour and cook for about 1 minute to form a roux.
- Slowly add the milk to the roux while continuously whisking to avoid lumps. Cook until the mixture thickens, about 5-7 minutes.
- Reduce the heat to low and stir in the shredded cheddar and cubed Velveeta until fully melted and smooth.
- Add the cooked macaroni to the cheese sauce, stirring well to combine. Season with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper to taste.
- Transfer the macaroni and cheese to a greased baking dish. Evenly sprinkle the crumbled cheese crackers on top.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 20 minutes, or until the topping is golden and crispy.
- Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
- Enjoy your Matt's Family Favorite Mac & Crunch!
